DISORDERS
Bursitis
- Inflammation of bursa, a sac fluid-filled structure found near
a joint cavity and acts as a cushion against the friction resulting
from movement of a joint.
Dislocation
- The complete and persistent displacement of a bone from its
normal position at the joint surface.
Fracture
- A break in the bone which is usually caused by accident; however,
it can also result from a disease of a bone.
Ganglion
- Node or lump formed inside sheath covering a tendon, or a clear
viscid fluid-filled sac found near the joints or fingers.
Osteoarthritis
- “Wear and tear arthritis” results from aging. Symptoms
include aching pain, stiffness, swelling and grinding sensation.
Osteochondritis
- Inflammation of both bone and cartilage.
Osteomalacia
- Condition in which the bone becomes soft as a result of calcium
or vitamin D deficiency in the diet.
Osteomyelitis
- Inflammation of bone marrow, cortex, tissue and periosteum,
can be caused by any organism, but usually bacteria.
Osteoporosis
- Condition in which the bone becomes increasingly porous and
brittle because of loss of calcium.
Rheumatoid Arthritis
- Irritation and thickening of synovial lining of the joints.
Common symptoms include pain, stiffness, local heat or swelling
of the joint, at times with fatigue, fever and loss of appetite.
Sprain
- Injury to a ligament, varying in degree from being stretched
to being ruptured (torn) with the continuity of the ligament remaining
intact.
Strain
- Results from overstretching of a muscle beyond its functional
capacity.
Tendinitis
- Inflammation or irritation of the tendon, which is a thick
cord that attaches muscle to bone and transmit the power generated
from the muscles to move a bone.
